Podcasting and Vidcasting – Delivering Engaging Learning to a New Generation

Podcasting and vidcasting have become the new hot topic in education, with services such as Apple’s iTunes U making it easy for Universities in particular to promote their courses to a wider audience. Standford University in the US has led this new wave of technology, even going so far as to “provide...downloads of faculty lectures, campus events, performances, book readings, music recorded by Stanford students and even podcasts of Stanford football games” (The Guardian newspaper, 21st October 2005). This paper outlines the use of podcasting and vidcasting in the University of Greenwich and discusses ideas for further developments in the field.
